Indian workforce has fewer women force than it was six years ago: only 18 per cent of rural workers are employed, compared to 25 per cent in 2011-12, and 14 percent of urban workers are employed, down from 15 percentage. However, as per an analysis of Azim Premji’s University researchers’ most recent government employment data, the women in salaried jobs percentage have increased from 35.6 percentage in 2004 to 52.1 percentage in 2017. Still, they remain under-represented compared to their presence in self-employed or casual work. Both men and women are working in rural and urban India. Despite this, the number of women’s labour force continues to decline, according to the most recent government data from the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS)2017-18.
Rural women’s workforce participation has fallen as compared to the previous generation. Our Foundation project list is very varied, ranging from employment development initiatives to campaigns to raising awareness on rural development. Various studies and our experience have noted that when we work towards women empowerment, the entire society benefits. But unfortunately, in India, far from empowering women, most are refused even their necessary rights like health, girls’ education, employment and good status in society. Educating a girl child and giving her hope in making her self-employable will make her family benefited. Other women, too, get inspired to be self-employed by that one individual. We are making possibilities for women that will surely reflect in the upliftment of the whole society. We eventually help them expand into not only successful but qualified individuals in life. They grow up to become important change-makers who contribute positivity to society. A self-employed woman becomes independent and gets the power to take responsibility and make decisions on her own. We show various self-employment opportunities mainly to rural women for rural and women development.
